Designs on Denmark

Snippets of Danish design, architecture, culture, fashion and food as spotted by Cathy Strongman, a Copenhagen-based British journalist.

Rather than honouring the fighters of the French Revolution and Napoleonic Wars, Nørrebro’s ‘Arc de Triomphe’ is an incredible climbing wall that marks the victory of a local community who managed to save a former industrial site from developers and turn it into a vibrant park and playground.

BaNanna Park on Nannasgade, designed by Nord Architects and Schønherr Landskab, was completed in 2010. It’s entered through a 14 metre high climbing wall and has a wooded jungle, a lawn with two banana shaped mounds of earth including one covered in a bright yellow sports surface, an asphalt ring around the perimeter and some seriously impressive street art.
